Costa de Almeria
Over the past decade, the pro's & con's of investing and owning property in Spain have been widely publicised and debated. However, a large amount of recent media coverage dedicated to the subject, has been concerned with the Costa Blanca, Costa Brava and Costa del Sol, which make up the majority of the residential tourism market in Spain.
ViewSpain believes that the Costa de Almeria should be considered separately from the other Costas, as is it significantly different. The local authorities have learnt from the mistakes made by the other over-developed Costas and well-considered regional and national strategies are in place to develop this region in a controlled and sensible environment. This shall help to ensure the region's cultural and locational qualities are respected and preserved.
Climate: The region has the warmest, sunniest climate in the whole of Europe. Considerably warmer and drier than every other part of Spain (witnessing one quarter of the rainfall experienced on the Costa del Sol), winter sunshine is a huge reason for many choosing to purchase a second home in this area. The climate is also responsible for thousands of tourists choosing this region of Spain as their preferred winter holiday destination.
Building restrictions: The Costa de Almeria has restrictions preventing developers building over 2 stories high in the majority of its coastal resorts and towns. This rule restricts unsightly high-rise developments from spoiling the region's natural beauty and also prevents over-population and crowding.
Accessibility: Just four years ago, Almeria Airport had one flight a week from the UK. Amongst other carriers, British Airways now flies four times-a-week to Almeria from the UK. RyanAir and easyJet have also introduced daily flights to Almeria from airports across the UK.
Infrastructure: New golf courses, marinas, train routes and motorways are having a positive affect on visitor numbers and those wanting to purchase property. Publicity: The Costa de Almeria is still relatively unknown compared to other areas of Spain. The region however, is now beginning to receive a large amount of media exposure in the UK, publicising its qualities and benefits for lifestyle and financial investment.
Spanish: The Costa de Almeria is where the Spanish go on holiday and parts of the region are considered very cosmopolitan. Those foreigners who do choose to holiday here or purchase property, are respectful of the fact that they are in a foreign country and are keen for it to retain its character and national identity.
